The
finished article! All the electrics seemed OK, except that parts of the
harness had been 'cropped'. I found that this was due to a different clock
layout. I had to reconnect was the self cancelling indicator circuit
- the reed switch was missing from the speedo - I found one from a model
railway that a mate runs and stuck it in place using silicon sealer. It
works fine now!
Since having had the bike on the road
the alternator rotor clapped out, so I had that rewound in Dublin at an
exorbitant price.
After running the engine in, I found that
it wouldn't rev over about 5000rpm. I thought it may be old knackered points,
but I replaced them with no gain: it still takes me to around 75mph, so
I can live with that for the moment. I have since discovered that it was
the exhausts, which I have replaced with long Halco ones, which I think
look better.
The bike appeared in May 2001 edition of Classic and Motorcycle Mechanics earning me a T-shirt!
